Thermal plants are plants which turn the chemical energy in the solid, liquid and gas fuels into heat energy, the heat energy into kinetic energy (motion), and the kinetic energy into electrical energy.
Today, our country is importing 72% of its energy requirement. While the level of energy production based on natural gas is 21% in the world, nearly 50% of the energy produced in our country is natural gas based. The instability seen in the prices of natural gas and oil as well as the possible supply cuts are making source diversification and local production increases compulsory in terms of energy safety.
Coal is a natural fossil fuel which is abundant around the world, reliable and at the same time it comes at a low cost. According to the reserve locating studies that have been used as references by the UEA made by the German Federal Earth Sciences and Natural Resources Institution, coal deposits (anthracite and lignite) make up 53.1% of the total visible reserves and 77.6% of all reserves in total. Also coal investment costs in terms of use, storage and transportation are lower compared to other energy resources.
Ortadoğu Energy Group is planning to make new investments such as setting up a Thermal Plant project in the near future.
